FACILITATING A TELECONFERENCE
Overview and Purpose
This unique course is conducted as a teleconference. In other words, participants learn hot to facilitate a teleconference via a teleconference! The class is limited to eight participants and runs for a total of three hours with a short break.
The purpose of the course is to provide tools and tips for facilitating a teleconference. Participants learn how to:
1. Prepare for the meeting
2. Open the meeting
3. Facilitate the meeting
4. Close the meeting
5. Follow up on the meeting
Learning Format
We will provide some insights and then ask the participants to incorporate their experience with TCs so we can all learn together. After a brief icebreaker that gets people talking about their experiences and their learning expectations for the class, we provide a model of the "Excellent Teleconference." A discussion follows.
Each of the five units includes a review and description of our tips and tools based on our experience followed by an interactive exercise such as a provocative questions or case problem. Each participant is given an opportunity to facilitate a discussion of an interactive exercise to give them some skill practice in facilitation. At the conlusion of each exercise, will provide both our insights and feedback to the facilitator.
Pre- Work
As course pre-work, we ask each participant to read a brief document, Teleconference Tips. Several days prior to the class, we provide each participant with the necessary handouts to follow the discussion and participate in the interactive exercises.
