Some PTPS Survey Results

PTPS: DO YOU KNOW?

1. Among the four styles which is the most prevalent? (Hint: it starts with C)

2. What percentage of people have one primary style? Two primary styles?

3. Are there any differences between men and women? (We're talking here about PTPS results).

4. Are there any differences between managers and nonmanagers (Again, PTPS results)?

5. Across the board Communicator tends to be the least prevalent style. However, in what industry is Communicator right at the top of the most frequently reported styles?

PTPS: DO YOU KNOW?

Note: I have a data base of more than 2,000 people who have completed the PTPS during my training workshops, team building sessions, team meetings and conferences. The following responses are based on this sample.

1. Overall Style Distribution. Among all people who completed the PTPS, the most frequently reported styles were Collaborator with 22% and Contributor with 17%. Among the group that had a single primary style, 33% were Collaborators and 27% were Contributors.

2. Gender Differences. Among both men and women Collaborator is the most frequently reported style. However, the second most frequently reported style among men is Contributor with 18% while the second highest among women is Challenger with 16%.

The most dramatic differences occur when the Challenger results are compared. About 16% of the women in the sample are Challengers while only 11.8% of the men are Challengers. Among people with a single primary style, one quarter (25%) of the women are Challengers making it the second highest category among women. However, Challengers account for only 19% of the men, making it the lowest style among men.

3. Single Primary Style. In my sample, 65% had one primary style, 29% had two primary styles, 5% had three styles and less than 1% had a uniform distribution.

4. Managers vs. Nonmanagers. I have data for four categories: executives, managers, professionals and wage earners. For all four groups, the most frequently reported style is Collaborator. However, among executives and managers, Challenger is the second highest category while Contributor is second highest among professionals and wage earners.

5. Industry Results. The financial services industry data are interesting because Communicator with 23.3 is right up there with Collaborator at 24.3 as the most frequently reported styles. On the other hand Contributor is the highest category in both pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.

These data are drawn from the PTPS Normative Data Report. The Report is found in the Parker Team Building Program Facilitator's Guide, which can be ordered from Consulting Psychologist Press at 1-800-624-1765 or www.cpp.com
