Using the PTPS with a New Team
Consolidation in the marketplace is driving the formulation of new teams and disrupting the functioning of existing teams. An industry leader in the U.S. in the manufacturing of large concrete pipe to small flexible conduits for fiber optics has decided to consolidate its Distribution Centers. Four Distribution Centers have recently been consolidated into a large "green field" facility in South Carolina. The four prior Distribution Centers management has been transferred to this new facility with new assignments, and one of the four former managers is the new Distribution Center General Manager. A start-up team of existing leaders was a real challenge.
The Parker Team Player Survey has served as a diagnostic cornerstone of this "new team" of former colleagues in their initial team building session. All four of them, plus two new members from the area, are part of the new top management team. In our three-day session, the PTPS has served as a focal point of style, action planning and projected follow-up in our next session. The new team plans to use the PTPS not only for self-assessment but also "other" assessment as they are now underway, up and running.
The PTPS is critical to my 25-year practice as I link it to issue identification, interpersonal processing and path forward action planning. The use of the PTPS accelerates skills, helps identify vulnerabilities and creates a cohesive process among team members.
