Best Practices for Teams, Volume 1

A collection of the best thinking by more than 30 of the world's great team builders. I asked the people that I either knew or admired most in the field to contribute their latest and best work and voila! we created the first volume of "Best Practices." In addition to high quality all the contributions had to meet the test of "practitioner-friendly." That is, every manuscript, even the theory pieces, had to be relevant to the current issues faced by team facilitators, trainers and managers. And, equally important, all materials are fully reproducible.
Among the people who met the challenging standards of this concept were best-selling authors and consultants Peter Scholtes, William Dyer, Sivasailam "Thiagi" Thiagarajan, Jerry McAdams, Linda Moran, Deborah Mackin, Jack Zigon, Glenn Varney, Sylvia Odenwald and Michael Beyerline.
The book contains these sections:
Team Activities. In this section you will find six exercises that deal with issues such as new team start-up, trust, team growth, cross-department collaboration, breaking the ice with new people and how to plan a benchmarking site visit.
Team Instruments. This section includes five surveys that measure team member skills, financial cost of conflict, team structure, change and mature teams.
Case Studies. The five cases here cover such topics as multidisciplinary teams, self-directed teams, global teams, peer appraisal and pay for performance.
Practical Theory. The contributions in this section take team concepts and models and apply them to everyday situations. Topics cover systems, structure, trust, empowerment, conflict and group process.
Organizational Issues. This section is primarily aimed at executives and managers of team-based organizations. Issues addressed include alignment, team member attitudes, implementation of change, team performance measurement and the development needs of teams.
Team Resources. This section includes reviews of available resources (e.g., books, videos) on empowerment and self-directed teams and a bibliography on trust in teams.
