Parker Team Development Survey Program

The Parker Team Development Survey (PTDS) Program also resulted from the research associated with the book, Team Players and Teamwork. The characteristics of an effective team grew out of a long history of research in group dynamics by such people as McGregor, Likert, Argyris and Blake and Mouton. Once again, the instrument was tested with teams in my client organizations and reviewed by other experts in organization development. As a result, the PTDS, that appeared in the Resources Section of the book, was revised.

The 12 characteristics in the Survey are:

The complete PTDS program kit consists of a Leader's Guide, ten copies of the Team Member Survey to be completed by each team member and a Team Scoring Form to collect the individual responses for analysis. In addition to instructions for administering the Survey, the 18-page Leader's Guide contains sample applications of the PTDS, a discussion guide to facilitate discussion of the results among team members and an outline for creating an action plan for team improvement.

I have used the PTDS with all types of teams: process improvement, natural work groups, senior management, customer service and others in the private and public sectors. I have also demonstrated the Program in team training classes to present the characteristics of an effective team.
