Team Building: Typical Assignments

  • BOC Gases, Information Management. This multi-level intervention for the Vice President and his direct reports included individual interviews, completion of the Parker Team Player Survey (PTPS) with peer feedback and a two-day intensive, off-site meeting where team members used the data to obtain additional feedback and develop action plans. Follow-up activities involved one-on-one coaching with each person, inclusion of the PTPS goals in their performance management plan and several one-day team sessions.
  • Lucent Technologies. Several team building interventions were facilitated for business teams in the Operations and Engineering Technology area of the former Bell Laboratories. Activities included personal interviews, completion of the Team Development Survey and off-site sessions that focused on issues such as stakeholder relationships, communications and meetings management.
  • Roche Pharmaceuticals. An intervention for the Southern Operations Business Unit that focused on role clarification, stakeholder relationships and internal communications. Prior to the session each person was interviewed and completed our Survey of Cross-Functional Teamwork.
  • Bellcore. Over the course of a 12-year consulting relationship with the Language Standards Division, a number of team building exercises were designed and facilitated. For example, one intervention focused on effective conflict resolution among team members. A specially designed survey was administered prior to the session to each team member with a peer feedback component that provided data on how each person handled interpersonal conflict.
  • Van Heusen. This team, which was experiencing significant internal conflict, participated in an intensive intervention that involved 360 feedback using the Parker Team Player Survey and the Team Development Survey. A number of key issues were resolved and new norms emerged from the off-site event. An evening activity involved the team, under the direction of the kitchen staff, in the preparation of their own dinner as a fun, team building exercise.
