Effective Conflict Resolution

Overview:

Conflict! It's a dirty word. We don't like it; we want to avoid it. It sounds like something negative or at best, unpleasant. And yet, disagreements are a natural part of a healthy relationship, a healthy team and a healthy organization. In fact, if the culture of an organization encourages open communication, free expression of ideas, looking at both sides of an issue and candor, we should expect disagreements.

The key to success is learning the tools of effective conflict resolution. In this fast-paced, half day workshop, participants will learn the dynamics of conflict, how their approach impacts conflict resolution and a walk away with tools for achieving win-win agreements with colleagues, team members and family.

Topics:

Current Conflicts I: A look at recent conflicts - one situation that was successfully resolved and another that did not have a satisfactory conclusion.

Assessment: Each person will complete the Thomas - Kilmann Conflict Mode instrument that yields a profile of your approach to conflict resolution.

Learning from Conflict: A video that both depicts a number of business and personal conflict situations and describes five methods of conflict management.

Conflict Scenarios: Participants apply their survey results to company-specific situations as a practical way of increasing their skills in conflict resolution.

Current Conflicts II: Participants return to their recent conflicts to apply the insights gained from the workshop.

Improvement Planning: The workshop concludes with the development of an individual plan for expanding his or her repertoire in conflict resolution.

Format:

This workshop moves quickly through a variety of learning methodologies from assessment to video to application exercises. The emphasis is on practical application of conflict resolution strategies through the use of several "hands-on" activities. Each person receives a copy of the Conflict Mode survey instrument and a manual of application resources.
