Team Empowerment
A Three-Hour Module
Studies indicate cross-functional teams that get things done faster and better have the freedom to act. They able to do whatever is necessary, within reason, to achieve their goals. Once senior management approves their goals, project plan and budget, then the team makes the key decisions necessary to meet their customer's needs. In this workshop we will explore the meaning of empowerment, the obstacles to empowered teams and what a team can do to achieve success through empowerment.
Specifically, you will:
- Participate in a demonstration of the differences between traditional and empowered team decision-making.
- Learn the meaning of empowerment and why it is important to team success.
- Analyze a case study of a cross-functional team struggling with empowerment.
- Complete and analyze the results of a survey instrument that indicates the current level of team empowerment.
- Prepare a plan for using empowerment to increase team success.
Prior to the program, participants will read Chapter 5, "Empowering Teams to Do the Job," in Cross-Functional Teams: Working With Allies, Enemies and Other Strangers, Jossey-Bass, 1994.
